Beginning from December 1, 2011, the Canadian government has been providing the parents and grandparent super visa that enables parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit Canada for a up to two consecutive years without having to renew their status. Moreover, the visa remains valid for up to 10 years so parents and grandparents can re-apply. Please be noted that this super visa is applicable for only those people who meet specific conditions set forth by the visa office through which they will be applying. Only parents and grandparents with their spouses can apply excluding any other dependents.
If the parents and grandparents are living in countries that require a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) to enter Canada, then by obtaining the super visa they will get the benefit of hassle-free travel from their home country to Canada without a TRV. On the other hand, super visa is also beneficial for parents and grandparents from TRV-exempt countries. They will get an official letter in place of a visa from CIC and thus will be henceforth authorized to visit Canada for up to two years at a time.
