Canada has received more students every year
In its last report, UNESCO points the number of international students has grown in Canada considerately from 2001 until 2017. While in 2001, Canada was not in the list of Top 10 Destinations for International Students, in 2017, Canada figures side-by-side as France and Australia.
Despite that, compared to total of higher education population, Canada has largest shares of international students. It is just behind Australia (23.8%) and The United Kingdom (21.1%), and ahead of France (12.5%), Germany (8.7%), Spain (6.1%) and The United States (5.3%).
International students have chosen Canada for many reasons. The high-quality educations offered, and the affordable tuition fees are two significant items for their decision. Also, international students can work while studying, helping them to pay for their living expenses. Canada knows students have a positive impact on its economy. So, there are programs what allow them to continue to work after graduation, making many international students eligible to immigrate to Canada.
